Former head of Gap men’s global design Tony Kretten has joined Thrillist Media Group-owned JackThreads as creative director of commerce. Kretten will oversee the creative direction of the members-only shopping website, as well as direct the design of the company’s first self-named vertical brand slated for a Fall ’15 launch.
The apparel line will consist of core basics, bookended by trendy pieces.
“There is a white space in the marketplace for a brand like JackThreads to occupy and a huge opportunity to be that one-stop destination for young, everyday, real guys,” Kretten said. “Thrillist Media Group is the future of how e-commerce businesses communicate with their customers and I want to be a part of building a company of the future.”
Kretten spent 13 years at Gap and was the design lead responsible for working with Bono to launch the (RED) collection. He also coordinated the re-launch of the 1969 brand and was instrumental in the retailer’s partnership with GQ and their “Best New Menswear Designers in America” campaign. Prior to The Gap, Kretten led Structure’s transition into Express Men’s and was the design director for Guess Jeans men’s collection.
The move reunites Kretten with Mark Walker, who worked with Kretten for more than a decade as the head of men’s at The Gap, and who was hired by JackThreads earlier this year as president of commerce.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tony in the past on a bunch of successful initiatives and when it came time to find someone for this role, I thought of him immediately.
