Michael Kors Opens Largest Store with a Focus on Menswear

Michael Kors opened its largest store to date on Jan. 29 at 520 Broadway in SoHo. The three-story, 22,000-square-feet store represents many firsts for the company, including the debut of menswear in the brand’s retail stores, and the launch of its first-ever men’s footwear line.

Menswear offerings include a wide assortment of modern sportswear, suede and leather outerwear, a Men’s Suit Shop featuring the 520-exclusive Broadway suit as well as sport coats, dress shirts and ties, and men’s runway and exotic bags and small leather goods. Expert tailoring services is also available in store.

“This is the first opportunity for us to present the men’s collection in a complete format, featuring tailored clothing, shirts, ties, sportswear and accessories, in one of our stores,” said John D. Idol, Michael Kors chairman and chief executive officer. “It’s a great platform for the company to build upon its already successful men’s business. We view adding menswear to our existing Lifestyle store format as an opportunity to gauge the potential for an expansion of our retail concept. Retail is the key component of our overall growth strategy, and we are excited to incorporate our growing menswear business into that strategy.”

The store smacks of Michael Kors’ jet set-chic aesthetic. Vintage Murano glass Sputnik chandeliers, sleek metal fixtures, mirrored surfaces and glossy and large-scale photographs evoke glamor, while floor-to-ceiling video screens on all three floors present runway shows.

“I’m very excited to be opening our largest store in the world, and to have it be in SoHo,” Kors said. “New York City is my home and the source of so much of my inspiration as a designer. It’s a thrill to be able to offer my customers here such an amazing shopping experience.”
