Over 700,000 pairs of jeans have been collected for homeless teens in North America this year through Teens for Jeans, a nationwide denim drive initiated by mall-based retailer Aeropostale and DoSomething.org. Since launching eight years ago, the campaign as collected and donated a total of five million pairs of jeans by joining forces with teen groups and schools.
“Many shelters use these jeans as an incentive for teens to spend the night there, as opposed to elsewhere,” said DoSomething.org CEO Nancy Lublin. “It is super important that these homeless kids get off the streets, out of motels, and into shelters and programs.”
Over 13,000 schools across North America participated in Teens for Jeans this year, more schools than any year in the campaign’s history. Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah collected the most jeans — 9,146 pairs — and will be awarded with a $5,000 school grand, a concert by British pop group, The Vamps and Aeropostale T-shirts. Other celebrities, including Ashley Greene, Fifth Harmony, Laura Marano and Brendan Meyer helped promote the drive on social media.
