Morito Scovill Americas Has Sustainability At Its C.O.R.E.™

Rivet’s 2021 winter issue has dropped! This in-depth issue examines the steps the global denim industry is taking to minimize its impact on the environment, from implementing zero waste production and design processes to establishing greenhouse gas emissions goals aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Casting a wide net across brands in footwear, children’s wear, workwear and outerwear, Morito Scovill Americas (MSA) has partnerships across the global supply chain. With a promise to be Committed to Our Resources and Environment, MSA launched its eco-friendly initiative, C.O.R.E.™ in 2020.

MSA’s C.O.R.E. commitment to preserving the Earth’s resources means the manufacturer of products including snaps, buttons, grommets and washers has removed traditional methods from its production process. Removing these methods greatly reduces the company’s environmental footprint.

The removal of resource-heavy processes such as electroplating, sandblasting, color filling and paint baking results in C.O.R.E. manufacturing processes that significantly decrease resource consumption, including water and power, and reduce production-related emissions.

Furthering their commitment to reducing environmental harm, the company has also made upgrades to its Clarkesville, Ga. manufacturing facility, including an in-house water treatment facility to effectively control and treat manufacturing wastewater, as well as counter-flow rinse systems that reduce water consumption by approximately 50 percent.

All products are shipped in packaging containing up to 90 percent corrugated recycled materials and up to 80 percent recycled plastic materials.

Through the power of partnership, service and expertise, the global manufacturing facility has made a clear commitment to improving its sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing practices and processes. Additionally, MSA’s membership in the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) provides transparency into the company’s environmental and social responsibility.

The company’s commitment to continuous improvement and the advancement of eco-friendly manufacturing methods provides operational efficiency to customers and partners. By educating everyone about the C.O.R.E. manufacturing methods, MSA hopes to meet their customers’ sustainability needs and influence eco-friendly designs.
