Munich denim trade show Bluezone announced Tuesday that it has nixed plans to host a brand-new in-person event in May. Rather, the organizers intend to focus on its regularly scheduled event on Aug. 30-31 alongside Munich Fabric Start taking place Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
April and May 2022 were shaping up to be a busy period for the global denim industry.
In December, following the cancelation of the January 2022 trade show due to omicron and travel restrictions, Bluezone announced that it would debut an industry event on May 3-4 focused on innovation and textile technology.
Two weeks later, however, Kingpins Amsterdam announced its return to in-person events. “At this point, our attitude is that new virus ‘brands’ are not going to stop coming at us. Those of us who need to be inspired need to get out of our little bubbles,” Kingpins organizers stated in an email. The show is scheduled for April 20-21 at SugarCity, and will be followed by Amsterdam Denim Days.
Denim Première Vision is also scheduled for May 17-18 in Berlin.
“The short-notice announcement of a further and thus third denim trade show within 20 days and within a radius of 1000 km has caused great unrest and a lack of understanding from the industry and also from us,” said Sebastian Klinder, Munich Fabric Start managing director. “Since we do not want to get involved in a battle of show dates [and in] the interest of the entire textile industry and our exhibitors, we have decided to avoid the oversupply of shows and to focus all our positive energy on our core date at the end of August.”
The company added that its “basic philosophy” is to “realize all events according to the well-known high level of the family-run and stable company.”
Munich Fabric Start will host View Premium Selection, a show dedicated to high-quality fabric and accessories collections, on June 21-22.
