Turkish denim mill Calik Denim is launching a new initiative aimed to inspire the denim supply chain to think innovatively, creatively and sustainably.
The mill will host its first seminar series, Ever Evolving Talks, Oct. 23 in Amsterdam at the Theater Amsterdam. The invite-only event will serve as a live platform for thought leaders to exchange new ideas and strategies and to provoke conversation in the denim and fashion industry.
“Considering our key achievements in sustainability and the significant role denim plays in the fashion industry, we believe that if the industry comes together in new ways, we can all together achieve even greater outcomes to benefit the planet and humanity,” Pinar Demirel, Calik Denim marketing manager, said.
With Ever Evolving Talks, Calik aims to share its vision for the future while inspiring and supporting everyone involved in the denim and fashion industry through a new concept for sharing and exchanging ideas from both within and outside the sector. The mill has purposefully included experts from outside the fashion industry to lend their fresh perspectives, like Ken Segall, author and former creative director at Apple.
“Effectively, we’re starting important and relevant conversations for our industry,” Demirel said. “Calik Denim’s vision as a leading denim brand is to add value to the industry as a whole through sharing ideas, and we feel this event totally reflects that. The subjects of the talks from our thought leaders will delve into all-encompassing and relevant subjects and themes for today and the future including simplicity and innovation, wearable technology and the millennial generation.”
The event’s agenda will cover hot topics like streetwear, sustainability and collaboration. G-Star Raw denim and sustainability expert Adriana Galijasevic and Patagonia EMEA general manager Ryan Gellert will discuss fashion’s adoption of sustainable practices.
High Snobiety digital editor Alec Leach will discuss the power of collaboration with Avery Dennison brand partnerships specialist Izzy Joly, designer Willy Chavarria, and Lucas Vincent, designer of the luxury streetwear label Ex Infinitas.
Alyx founder Matthew Williams, Brooklyn Circus creative director Ouigi Theodore, and Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh, founders of the creative menswear collective Art Comes First, will examine the future of fashion.
Demirel said it’s the mill’s intention to grow Ever Evolving Talks into a regular event. Anyone interested in the attending the event can request an invite by emailing email@example.com.
“Calik Denim is passionate about combining innovation and sustainability to ensure that we are both ethical and fashionable,” Demirel said. “Sustainability, innovation and technology are at the heart of everything we do and we envision combining these three areas with our new project to create a better future.”
