Denim & Rainbows: Street Style from NYC Pride March

A hot and muggy day in Manhattan didn’t deter 50,000 marchers and more than a million spectators from donning their best Pride fashion, including a range of summer denim, at the 49th annual New York City Pride March Sunday.

With no shortage of Pride Month or colorful fashion in sight, the celebration brought out a flurry of exuberant fashion, spanning statement tees and tie dye tops, to crochet bralettes and mesh tanks, all of course, in the requisite rainbow hues. The summer’s must-have accessories, including sport slides, Vans sneakers, fanny packs, tiny glasses and gear tagged with the Supreme logo, were also out in force.

The vibrant colors teed off against an array of denim short styles. The summer staples were worn as high-waisted cut-offs, long shorts with rolled hems, distressed white shorts, short-shorts with exposed pocketing and baggy with pleated fronts.

Denim overalls (worn with one strap buckled) and mini-skirts added a playful ’90s vibe to festive outfits. Checkerboard prints and grommet belts added a touch of downtown edge. Others skateboarded through the parade in worn-in relax fit jeans with heavy distressing. Denim vests doubled as a canvas for political statements.

Celebrities turned out in colorful denim, too. Actress Victoria Justice greeted parade attendees from a float in high-waisted cropped jeans with rainbow side taping, while Lady Gaga made an appearance in jeans with rainbow-colored buckles up the front.
