Fall Denim Trend: Postcards from Hollywood

Retro denim always has a place in fashion, but this fall designers have overwhelmingly culled inspiration from the ’70s.

The decade’s saturated earthen colors and tomboyish-yet-sexy styling have the ability to instantly inject drama into wardrobes, while signature pieces like leather dusters and exaggerated jeans silhouettes add swagger to women’s strut.

Rivet’s Fall/Winter 20-21 fashion story “LA Lady” bring this wide-sweeping ’70s trend to life with Hollywood as a cinematic backdrop.

Shot on a rare moody day on Hollywood Blvd., the editorial features statement pieces like Gucci’s glam safari jean jacket and Marc Jacobs’ patchwork denim and matching boots alongside Prada’s geometric-print suiting and Alberta Ferretti’s breezy tunic tops and pieced jean jackets.

The trend works off the runway as well. Frame’s sleek denim jumpsuit, Sandro’s high-waisted shorts and flare jeans by brands like Wrangler and Mother Denim are examples of how the retro look translates across the women’s denim category.
