Menswear sales were globally worth $440 billion in 2014——a 4.5% yearly growth compared to womenswear, which increased 3.7% to $662 billion, according to survey by Euromonitor. Further sales in the menswear apparel market are predicted to reach $480 billion by 2019.
The survey was part of data compiled by the British Fashion Council at the start of the London Collections Men about the menswear industry in 2016 and beyond.
The men’s apparel market has grown 22 percent from 2009 to 2014, according to Mintel. The global market research firm attributes the growth to more interest in men’s fashion and more retailers expanding into menswear.
IbisWorld reported that the menswear category has also grown 17.4% in online sales between 2010 and 2015, outpacing all other categories. IbisWorld also predicts that online menswear is positioned to grow more than other selected categories, with an annual average of 14.2% between 2015 and 2020.
