For Spring/Summer 2017 Brazilian denim mill Vicunha has worked directly with high profile jeans brands to create specialized yarns and finishes for their individual markets. Based on feedback from European trade shows, the mill is focusing heavily on super stretch, durability and product containing BCI cotton.
“We have received fantastic feedback on our Athletic Denim Line pre-printed with black and indigo, an absolute must, both in terms of brand and according to retailers. Super Stretch is still in demand, but has received weaker reviews. Semi-Power and Comfort Stretches with 10-12 oz. such as Marina and Bruna emphasize the features,” said Thomas Dislich, Director of Vicunha in Europe and Asia.
Dislich said the mills looks to BCI cotton to deliver durability and sustainability. “Vicunha simply offers ‘better cotton’ and continues to be the world’s leading carrier of BCI cotton. 100,000 tons of BCI cotton are used per year, which is almost 5 percent of the global supply. This business is very much rooted in the concept of durability,” he stated. “Vicunha continues to participate in protecting the environment by using a recycling strategy unique to them, and by completely rejecting the idea of landfill waste.”
The S/S 17 collection of “super smart” products includes a range of hyper stretch denims and twills ensuring high performance and great flexibility with fabrics providing close to 100 percent elasticity. The Bi stretch line allows body sculpting fits offering total movement designed to guarantee maximum freedom, flexibility and resistance. The mill is also introducing dual core garments containing Elastan and T400 for quality, comfort and a luxurious hand feel. Vicunha has invested deeply in dual-core spinning technology, becoming the largest dual core spinner in North and South America.
