David Bowie’s impact on fashion is apparent in designer Ivy Kirzhner’s ultra-glam collection for Fall ’16.
Kirzhner’s collections always have a tinge of musical undertones—her husband works for Atlantic Records—however the fall line makes a decidedly bold, glam rock impression with over-the-knee suede boots in red and black splashed with Ziggy Stardust-inspired 18-karat gold stars and grommets. The theme is carried into a flashy pair of studded pumps emblazoned with gold lightning bolts.
Sneakers and boots dominate the remainder of the collection. Molten gold sneakers are accented with the brand’s signature triangular motifs on the toe and sides. Black leather high-tops feature a gold toe, eyelets and buckle hardware.
Other boots designed with New York City winters in mind take style cues from the sneaker category. Western-inspired hardware lends an urban cowboy touch to shearling boots with a sneaker bottom. Patchwork shearling uppers speaks to the ongoing ’70s trend. Hikers are elevated with gold hardware and red laces for a color pop.
Dress boots skew either furry, like suede wedge boots with a dyed rabbit fur upper, or slinky, like a pair of lace-up peep-toe stiletto booties.
