‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’ in Stan Smith/Disney Drop

Adidas, on a mission to use only recycled polyester by 2024, introduced two new recycled materials last year: Primeblue and Primegreen. Since then, the technologies have been featured in product releases across the board, from face masks and activewear to classic footwear silhouettes.

In January, the brand announced the launch of Stan Smith, Forever. The new sustainability platform saw it release three unique iterations of its iconic Stan Smith sneaker, each made with a recycled Primegreen upper.

The next chapter in Adidas’ Stan Smith, Forever line—an eight-shoe collection featuring some of Disney’s most iconic characters—will drop later this month.

Kermit the Frog will act as the centerpiece of the drop, with his catchphrase “It’s not easy being green” embossed across the heel tabs of each shoe. Characters from some of Disney’s most famous franchises will also make appearances alongside the beloved Muppets amphibian.

Each pair in the collection includes unique details and references to the characters, such as graphic outsoles, embossed details, bold graphics, playful prints and additional lace options. All pairs feature a Primegreen upper and recycled rubber outsole.

The Stan Smith-Disney crossover offers a mix of subtle and not-so-subtle styles. A shoe inspired by Rex from Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story” sports an upper designed to resemble the character’s scaly dinosaur skin. Another channels Marvel’s Hulk with an all-black upper, a “Hulk Smash!” detail on the side and a green fist graphic printed on the outsole. All-over prints cover silhouettes dedicated to Kermit and Mike Wazowski from “Monsters, Inc.”

Several other designs retain more of the classic Stan Smith look. Small graphics of “Peter Pan’s Tinkerbell, Marvel’s Groot and Wall-E appear on white uppers for each of their respective shoes, with minimal other changes—the Groot shoe adds what looks like a cork material around the midsole and the Tinkerbell sneaker includes a multi-color lacing and heel tab. Kermit also receives a second design in this style.

All eight styles will launch on Adidas’ website and at Adidas stores globally Monday before becoming available at select retailers April 1. A ninth themed Stan Smith silhouette dedicated to the Star Wars franchise’s Yoda will launch at a later date.
