Adidas Originals unveiled what it’s calling its “pinnacle apparel collection” Tuesday.
Positioned as the beginning of “a new creative journey,” the Blue Version collection draws on the brand’s archive, referencing iconic looks and infusing them with contemporary details, Adidas said. The inaugural Fall/Winter line debuts globally Sept. 15.
The stylish collection includes two blue-drenched takes on Adidas’ classic Beckenbauer Tracksuit. The women’s version features an oversized top and a slim-cut pant with stirrup details and cutout panels, while the men’s offering sports “updated cuts and premium materials,” Adidas said.
Despite the collection’s name, the Fall/Winter line contains multiple all-black looks. A women’s asymmetric track top pairs with cotton-twill Adibreak pants. Adidas’ men’s Quality Jacket is matched with a premium iteration of its Firebird Track Pants. The men’s Seefeld Track Top and Track Pant—worn by the elite winter athletes of the ‘70s—also make a return.
Men’s and women’s trench coats round out the collection. Each features blue overlays and typographic prints inspired by archival soccer jersey sponsor logos.
Adidas drops college football collection
This college football season, Adidas has teamed up with seven of its Division I university partners to design alternate uniforms showcasing each school’s history, primary and secondary logos and school colors.
Adidas worked with its partner schools—Arizona State, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi State, Nebraska, NC State and Washington—for the past two years perfecting the designs, it said. Each team will wear the uniform for one game during the 2021 college football season. Each uniform will be matched with a set of baselayers and gloves.
The Reverse Retro jerseys were made with 60 percent recycled materials, Adidas said, making the collection its first for a group of university partners made with recycled materials,.
Released Monday, the $120 jerseys are available to the public at Adidas’ website, Fanatics.com and the seven universities’ bookstores.
Adidas debuts basketball collabs
The same day Adidas revealed its upcoming Blue Version collection, it also dropped a new sneaker from Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz inspired by the classic ‘90s hit show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The D.O.N. Issue #3: Prep School features an inside-out paisley upper designed to echo the lining of the iconic prep school uniform that Will Smith’s eponymously named character sported on the television series. Mitchell and Adidas created the shoe in collaboration with Bel-Air Athletics, the Fresh Prince-themed brand the actor launched in 2019.
On Friday, Adidas released a collection with the New York-based sportswear designer Eric Emanuel. The Adidas Basketball Fundamentals collection includes bright basketball shorts in four colorways, a classic basketball tank and shooter, “court-ready versions” of the Exhibit A and N3XT L2V3L Futurenatural and new designs of the classic Adilette slides and the Streetball II sneaker.
