Super Bowl-Bound Patrick Mahomes Gets Special Adidas Colorway

As Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes heads to his second Super Bowl in as many years, Adidas is honoring the star athlete and brand partner with a tribute colorway of the Ultraboost DNA.

The Ultraboost DNA x Mahomes covers the running shoe’s upper in a black-and-white halftone graphic. Gold detailing on the heel counter and the brand’s classic three stripes give the shoe a metallic shine. Dropped last week exclusively for members of Adidas’ Creators Club loyalty program, the $180 shoe has already sold out.

“As the next face of the NFL, Patrick’s name is lit up in lights,” an Adidas spokesperson said. “We took inspiration from the marquee lights at old theaters and how they light up and the motion to them.”

The sneakers arrive less than two months after the debut of the Ultraboost DNA x Patrick Mahomes Mid. The shoe sports a woven fabric upper and is available in red with white detailing and green with gold detailing.

Damian Lillard, point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers and the man behind Adidas’ Dame sneaker line, will soon be the subject of his own commemorative colorway.

Unveiled last week in a tweet by ESPN’s Nick DePaula, the design appears to celebrate a famous 2019 match in which Lillard ended the Oklahoma City Thunder’s season by scoring a 37-foot, buzzer-beating 3-pointer. The upcoming colorway remakes the Dame in the Thunder’s colors, accenting a navy blue upper with light blue and orange details. Inside the shoe, a graphic lists Lillard’s stats from the match—50 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Though Adidas declined to provide any further detail on the shoe, Lillard told The Oregonian that the shoe is one of a series the brand is creating to honor 50-point games. Similar shoes celebrating other Adidas partners like James Harden and Derrick Rose are in the pipeline, he said.
