Caleres announced the appointment of Jay Schmidt as president of the company’s brand portfolio business. Schmidt will replace John Mazurk when he retires at the end of 2015.
In his expanded role, Schmidt will oversee the development of the company’s roster of brands, including Contemporary Fashion brands Sam Edelman, Franco Sarto, Vince, Via Spiga, Diane von Furstenberg, Fergie Footwear and Carlos Santana, as well as its Healthy Living brands Naturalizer, Dr. Scholl’s, LifeStride, Bzees and Rykä. He will report to Caleres President and Chairman Diane Sullivan.
Prior to joining Caleres in 2008, then called Brown Shoe, Schmidt spent more than 25 years developing extensive brand marketing and merchandising experience. He spent ten years with Nine West Group in several capacities and also held positions with Lord & Taylor, May Merchandising Corporation and Macy’s.
“I’m delighted to have Jay lead both our Contemporary Fashion and Healthy Living brand portfolios going forward,” Sullivan said in a statement. “His background and experience will help us further refine our Brand Portfolio business strategy and drive collaboration across our strong collection of brands.”
She added, “I also want to thank John Mazurk for all of his work on behalf of Caleres over the past 14 years. His insights and expertise will be missed, after he retires at the end of 2015.”
