Chooka boots, a division of Washington Shoe Company, have been a rainy-day staple since 2002, bringing style to waterproof footwear with bold patterns, new shapes and versatile silhouettes.
“The point of Chooka is we’re fashion with function. We try to be elegant and understated,” said Rob Moehring, Washington Shoe Company chairman. “Feminine has always been important to us. Our nature is try to feminize utility.”
For Fall ’17, the brand remains on top of seasonal trends with a noticeably elevated and streamlined appearance. The Versa Fit, a new boot collection with a trim last, features an adjustable back long gusset allowing the wearer to tighten or loosen based on personal preference. Offered in mid, tall and ankle heights, the boot provides wearers the opportunity for wearers to customize their look and fit.
“We’ve done a revamp and it’s launching in a big way in 2017,” said Kate Wright, Chooka designer. “We have the new silhouette—its more modern, cleaned up. It gives a more elegant shape to the calf. It tucks in at the ankle so you really get that nice defined calf that every woman loves,” said Kate Wright, designer for Chooka.
It’s a fresh look for the brand which had been focused on more traditional lug sole rain boots. “It was time for us to change,” Wright added.
Chooka changed many key pieces in the fall collection. The classic duck boot is refreshed with a new stacked heel. The entire line (except the duck skimmers) is built on a new memory foam insole. Chooka has also added caramel trim to boots for a high-end look.
Prints and patterns remain a Chooka staple for Fall ’17, especially ones with a bohemian vibe. One of Wright’s favorite designs is the “Big Bloom,” an explosive floral pattern.
“We’ve been getting a great response,” she said. “We’ve done an overhaul on virtually the whole line. I think everybody is receiving this as fresh and new.”
