German Brand Kennel & Schmenger Targets the U.S.

When it’s deliver-or-die, supply chains become the lifeblood of a company. To that end, the fashion industry has embraced technology to navigate today’s hyper-complicated supply chain, with myriad solutions shaping the first, middle and last mile. Call it Sourcing 2.0.

New York-based J Squared Group is bringing Kennel & Schmenger’s high-end styles Stateside to FFANY’s Emerging Designers area.

The German brand represents all aspects of edgy luxury with fur-lined slides, over-the-knee boots, square-toe booties, trendy sneakers and flatforms.

The brand boasts around 150 styles in its Pre-Fall ’17 collection, and will show many of them at FFANY.

With more than 90 years of family-owned shoemaking experience, Kennel & Schmenger aims to win over the U.S. with its expertise and ability to create bespoke footwear to suit retailers’ tastes and needs.

The brand sources leather from from the same Italian tanneries Gucci, Prada and Fendi work with, however, it manufactures shoes in its own factory in Germany, which allows buyers big and small to add or create a specific detail on an existing shoe.

Irwin Jacobs, co-founder and partner of J Squared Group, calls that quick access to the production line a huge advantage.

“If there are any stores that want to have early delivery, early fall, then they can put it in production. It’s [Kennel & Schmenger’s] own factory,” said Jacobs. “They always have some inventory of leathers and suedes. They can always fit a few things in their production line.”

At FFANY, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, Kennel & Schmenger will highlight suede styles, patent leathers, embroidered uppers and lightweight designs.
