In the Showroom: Vionic

When it’s deliver-or-die, supply chains become the lifeblood of a company. To that end, the fashion industry has embraced technology to navigate today’s hyper-complicated supply chain, with myriad solutions shaping the first, middle and last mile. Call it Sourcing 2.0.

Vionic, the podiatrist-designed footwear brand, is adding fashion to comfort, expanding their silhouettes for Fall ’15 to incorporate more stylish looks, and proving that feeling good and looking good are not mutually exclusive.

The brand’s collection of Career pumps is Vionic’s foray into free-standing heels, standing sturdy at 2.5 inches. The collection includes the classic Mabrey pump, offered in simple black, printed slate snake and wine leopard calf hair uppers, and the leather loafer-inspired Sumner heel, with a wrap-around design across the vamp.

Vionic is also offering new styles of their popular wedges in a variety of styles and colors, including the Elevated Hayes, a suede wedge with a matching suede flower ornament on the toe, and the Elevated Stanton, a wedge bootie with twin goring panels.

The brand’s Orthaheel technology still makes its way into these sophisticated styles, just with a slightly different design. Vionic medical director Terry Mitchell explained that as a wearer’s heel is lifted, her foot does not pronate to the same degree as a flat foot. Instead, her weight shifts forward, and the arch across the ball of the foot demands more attention. To support the change in the location of pressure, Mitchell has decreased the accommodations for the inner arch and incorporated a metatarsal raise in the inserts.

New silhouettes and height have also been added to the boot category. The Country Nadelle is Vionic’s casual Chelsea boot. The boot, available in delicious cinnamon leather, java and black, comes equipped with a zipper and lateral gore for ease and adjustability. On the dressier end, the Upright Taber, an ankle-skimming, heeled bootie with a side-zip, complements the brand’s range of ankle boots accented with subtle hardware like mini rivets and buckles.

Expect to see Vionic’s ever-popular loafer and flat silhouettes refreshed with new upper treatments, including leopard calf hair, natural snake print and jewels. For flats, a standout is the Spark Willow with micro-stud embellishments and an elastic topline, available in taupe, wine and black.
