Keen Utility set out to create a work boot with the best performance and safety features available in the market. The result is the Fall ’16 Tacoma Series, a two-piece collection that will be promoted heavily at retail and by a month-long national promotion awarding one customer with a 2017 Toyota Tacoma truck.
The showpiece in the series is the Tacoma XT CSA, an eight-inch lace-up or Wellington safety style made with full-grain, waterproof, barnyard-proof leather that resists the effects of oleic acid, urea, sodium chloride and ammonium hydroxide, ultimately extending the life of the boot.
The boot is packed with top-of-the-line safety features, including Heavy Duty thread for “strong as steel” support, a CSA-certified puncture resistant midsole plate and an oil- and slip-resistant non-marking rubber outsole, all of which meet Mark II Non-Slip testing standards. The boot is also outfitted with a removable metatomical dual-density EVA footbed and a TPU shank for mid-foot designed to provide comfort and stability over the life of the boot.
The Tacoma WP retains those same rugged elements as the XT CSA, in a lower six-inch lace-up silhouette. A Goodyear Welt construction provide support and torsion control while reducing foot fatigue. The completely non-metallic boot is equipped with oil- and slip-resistant non-marking rubber outsole and features water-diverting channels that meet ASTM Mark II non-slip testing standards. A soft toe version is also available.
To drum up interest in the collection, Keen Utility retail accounts are able to take part in the Toyota promotion by purchasing at least two Tacoma SKUs for the fall season. Retailers will be provided with a promotion package designed to help drive traffic with in-store and digital materials.
Chris Heffernan, general manager of Keen Utility, called the promotion a “game-changing introduction” for the brand. “We set out to create a promotion that would give high visibility to such an innovative line while supporting our retailers and driving traffic to their stores. The Toyota Tacoma is the preferred truck for many of our customers and fits the same hardworking values we hold dear. With a shared namesake it was the perfect launch pad for this collection we believe so strongly about,” he explained.
The boots land in stores beginning July 2016. The national promotion will take place throughout the month of October 2016 with customers entered to win with every pair of Tacoma boots they try on. A winner will be announced on Nov. 15 and invited to a celebration at Keen headquarters in Portland, Ore.
