Keen received the coveted ‘Gold Award’ at the OutDoor Industry awards at the OutDoor Trade Fair in Friedrichshafen, Germany for its Spring ’16 Uneek 8mm sandal. The award recognizes innovative, trend-setting product design and ideas.
Keen bested 329 entrants to be one of nine recipients of the award, and was the only footwear manufacturer to be honored with the distinction. The award’s panel of international judges praised the Uneek collection for its “unique look, comfortable fit and new material” and pegged the sandal as a “superb solution for traveling, outdoor activities and everyday use.”
Uneek, known for its signature two cord upper design, was introduced to a global audience in Spring ’15 in a team of vibrant colorways. The shoe is designed to complement the natural shape of the foot with the balance of comfortable feel and movement with its adjustable pull-cord upper and lightweight PU midsole.
“Creating a shoe as unconventional as Uneek represents our irreverent way of thinking when it comes to design and comfort, while keeping true to the hybrid versatility in our DNA,” said Rory Fuerst, Jr., Keen innovation program lead. “We wanted to create a truly new fit experience and are delighted that the hard work of all of the production, design and development team has been recognized by such an important accolade as the Gold Award.”
The Spring ’16 Uneek line includes styles for men and women in an array of solid, two-tone and print options, and is outfitted with Cleansport NXT, a new environment-friendly, natural odor control technology.
