Megan Thee Stallion is redefining what it means to be an athlete with a series of training videos on Nike’s Training Club app.
The footwear giant published four videos featuring this year’s Best New Artist Grammy winner last week, including a 15-minute core workout, a 10-minute lower body session and a two-minute mindfulness guide. Alongside her in several of the videos is Nike trainer Tara Nicolas.
“I’m sharing my fitness story to let you know sport is whatever ya want it to be,” Megan Thee Stallion wrote on Instagram. “Dance is my sport. Rapping is my sport. Performing is my sport. I am an athlete, and so are you.”
Nike’s partnership with the “WAP” collaborator continues the “Play New” advertising campaign it launched in May. Designed to invite people “to discover sport in new ways,” the advertising push has spotlighted Paralympic fencer Bebe Vio, tennis champ Serena Williams and marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge—all just in the past month.
The campaign continued Thursday with a new Megan Thee Stallion video. In it, the singer recounts how growing up others would constantly tell her all the sports—basketball, volleyball and track—she ought to play. “And I tried them all, but they just were not for me,” the three-time Grammy winner said. Preparing to perform on stage today, she said she runs through 12-hour dance rehearsals and trains five days a week.
“I like the fact that Hotties get to see me go through my struggle,” the self-styled “Hot Girl Coach” said in a Nike profile. “It’s realistic for you to want to give up. It’s realistic for you to not want to eat this today. It’s just really about discipline.”
Last week’s “Play New” ad isn’t the first time Megan Thee Stallion has promoted the Nike brand. In July, the Texas rapper starred in a campaign promoting a collaboration the company created with the Tokyo-based label Ambush.
Beyond Nike, the “Savage” singer has also teamed with the online fast-fashion company Fashion Nova. The partnership has come a long way in the year since Megan Thee Stallion confirmed its existence. Today, the e-commerce site lists 114 items—primarily swimwear—on its Fashion Nova x Megan Thee Stallion page.
