Merrell added top American mountain runner Joseph Gray to its team of brand ambassadors. Gray will test and collaborate with the Merrell product development team to help design future trail running footwear and apparel.
Gray was most recently awarded the 2015 USA Mountain Runner of the Year Award, making him a 6-time recipient of this award. In 2016, he is looking to set records in some of the historic USA races and to challenge international records. He is also looking to bring more people and more diversity to the sport.
Versatility in shoes is an important quality to Gray, allowing athletes to compete on a variety of terrains.
In a statement, Gray said, “Collaborating with Merrell to develop quality products that will empower recreational activity and athletes across the globe to reach their personal goals is my goal. I’d like to inspire more African American athletes to try trail running and experience the freedom the mountains undoubtedly provide.”
