The latest collaboration will launch a limited-edition collection of shoes inspired by the eight generations of the Porsche 911 Turbo sports car. Using its Future Rider and motorsport-inspired Speedcat silhouettes, Puma will create two limited-edition collections: “Air-Cooled” and “Water-Cooled.” The Future Rider was chosen to represent the first four generations of air-cooled 911 Turbos, Type 930 3.0 L and 3.3 L, Type 964 and Type 993, and the Speedcat picks up the more recent variants, the Type 996, 997, 991 and 992.
“When Porsche approached us to design a capsule to celebrate the iconic 911 sports car we were immediately taken by the idea,” Anja Egger, head of business unit marketing at Puma Motorsport, said in a statement. “Our ‘70s inspired Future Rider silhouette perfectly captures the historic era of the Air-Cooled Porsche 911 sports car, while the Speedcat is a true race-inspired style capturing the slick lines of the water-cooled generations of 911.
The Puma x Porsche collection will produce 500 pairs per unique sneaker design across all sizes, retailing for $150.
In creating the shoes, Puma said the designers looked to the cars themselves, drawing on the iconic rear wing, lightbars, interiors and body lines. Colors in the collection—such as “Palace Blue-Galaxy Blue,” “High Risk Red,” “Puma Black and Golden-Rod” and “Glacier-Grey”—link back to original Porsche vehicle hues.
Porsche Design entered a strategic partnership with Puma last year, resulting in seasonal collections of high-end sportswear, footwear and accessories. Puma is also the technical partner of Porsche Motorsport, including the Porsche GT Team and TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team, for fireproof racing clothing, team wear, shoes and luggage.
In time for the holiday season, Puma has also teamed up with children’s toy brand L.O.L Surprise! for a new collection of kids’ footwear and apparel. This collection includes two character-inspired sneaker designs: the Puma Future Rider x Diva, which includes a pink bow, black-and-white cheetah print, light green accents and pink glitter highlights and the Puma Cali Sport x Queen Bee, which features a metallic gold accent color with a pop of pink against a black and white design.
The collection, which also includes graphic T-shirts and leggings, ranges from $22 to $75. It will be available in-store and online at the Foot Locker family of brands, Puma.com and the Puma NYC Store starting Nov. 20.
Puma, coming off a successful third quarter that saw net earnings increase 13 percent, also recently partnered with artist Mr. Doodle to release a winter collection of apparel and footwear featuring his playful, signature designs.
