Reebok’s SNS Collaboration Serves Up Early ‘90s Walking Aesthetics

Specialty retailer Sneakersnstuff’s (SNS) latest Reebok collaboration returns to the ‘90s for a nostalgic collection of walking shoes and apparel.

Unveiled last week, the “Walking Collection” builds on a trend sparked in the early ‘90s when outdoor activities took off and inspired a generation to head outdoors, Reebok said. Two footwear silhouettes—a Classic Leather and a Classic Leather Legacy—spearhead the collection alongside a sweatshirt, long-sleeve T-shirt and two track pants.

The SNS Classic Leather Legacy sports a brown leather upper with suede hits on the heel, a contrasting black midsole, rope laces and co-branded heel and tongue. The SNS Classic Leather, meanwhile, employs a beige upper, suede touches and debossed co-branding on the heel and tongue tag.

Designed with lightweight construction, the SNS Sherpa Sweatshirt is made with Italian fabric and features an embroidered SNS patch at the left chest. The white T-shirt prints a large SNS graphic across the back, as well as the Swedish label’s name along each sleeve. The capsule also includes two retro polyester track pants, one in brown and the other in black.

“The choice of materials is what stands out in this collection,” Erik Fagerlind, co-founder and creative director of SNS, said in a statement. “This is very much a touch-and-feel product that might not always speak to everyone through digital platforms. For SNS, that gives a project extra meaning. It means you have to experience it in life so it will speak to different parts of your senses.”

The capsule debuted on the Sneakersnstuff website Saturday. The Classic Leather Legacy will also launch on Reebok’s site this week.

Reebok’s SNS collaboration will the mark the footwear brand’s second walking-centered release in a month. In February, it launched the DailyFit sneaker for the “busy woman on the go.” The new shoe features midsole technology designed to provide active cushioning, a satin-like molded heel that “hugs” the back of the foot and a convenient slip-on silhouette.

The SNS collection’s focus on ‘90s designs brings it in line with several other brands that have also tapped into Generations X and Z’s nostalgia for the period. Last month, Levi’s celebrated the 25th anniversary of Pokémon by debuting a collection of denim, fleeces, T-shirts and accessories featuring the cultural phenomenon’s more iconic creatures. Meanwhile, Guess’ Fall 2020 collection bore a range of the retro ‘90s graphics with bold stripes, bright colorways and classic denim styling also popping up throughout.
