Sakroots, a brand known for incorporating original artwork onto products such as bags and shoes, announced this month that NYC-based artist and Welsh fashion illustrator, Niki Pilkington, heads their latest collaboration for Spring ’17.
Aptly named, Wild Life, the collection boasts a fluorescent safari theme with brightly colored animals, plant life and geometric shapes, meaning to symbolize the possibility of living together in harmony.
Items span mixed canvas and vachetta leather styles, as well as quilted, reversible-nylon in a limited collection of handbags and footwear. Shoe silhouettes includes slip-on sneakers and ankle wrap sandals. The selection will retail for $50-150.
“Wild Life reflects the fun, whimsical world of Sakroots and we are thrilled to partner with such a talented artist who has her finger on the pulse for today’s millennial,” said CMO and Creative Director of Sakroots Aaron Duncan, in a statement.
Pilkington’s resume includes commissioned work for brands such as Ted Baker, Elle, MTV, Topshop and now Sakroots. “Creating a neon safari was kind of a dream come true,” Pilkington said. “My work is made to be playful and relatable. I like the thought of someone seeing my work and it making them smile.”
The collaboration complements Saksroots’ elevated Spring ’17 line. The collection, which is the brand’s first full range since new management was put in place last year, debuts the use of prints mixed with leather and canvas. Other styles offer a subtle alternative to all-over prints by pulling out key elements of the design.
