Made-to-order 3-D printed shoes nabbed top honors from the Young Menswear Association’s Fashion Scholarship Fund awards in New York City on Tuesday.
Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD) student Jessica Ferreira received one of four $30,000 Geoffrey Beene National Scholarships for 2016 from the international non-profit for her custom kicks.
Ferreira’s winning design titled “Shoes with Real Souls,” is made to fit with exact measurements of the wearer’s foot, detected by body scanning technology. The shoes feature a genuine leather upper and 3-D printed TPU soles and 3-D printed metal hardware.
Young Menswear Association is composed of influential members in the fashion sector. Each year it recognizes and supports emerging talent in the fashion industry through its scholarship program.
