Teva Bets on Socks and Sandals

Socks and sandals are officially a go, if Teva’s new partner has anything to say about it.

Sock brand Stance has stepped up to become the Deckers-owned footwear brand’s latest collaborator, and the two are banking on the widespread appeal of what was once a controversial sartorial statement. According to Teva, the new collection of socks is designed for those who “dare to be different,” celebrating individuality and self-expression while lending more versatility to its sandal-heavy assortment.

The drop has arrived just in time for what the two brands have dubbed “#SocksandSandals season”—the transitional period between summer and fall.

The collection features a version of Teva’s popular Hurricane XLT2 sandal in a muted, sleek style with subtly striped red, green and blue straps made from recycled remnant yarns. A cream-colored EVA foam midsole and durabrasion outsole are decorated with speckles of color that complement the shoe’s straps. Each sandal is embroidered with an “R” or “L” across its vamp to mimic Stance’s socks, which also designate left and right sides.

Stance’s three-quarter-height cream sock pairing is also crafted from upcycled materials and fabric scraps taken from the cutting-room floor, and bears stripes in corresponding colors as well as the Teva logo embroidered at the ankle. The socks feature increased cushioning and arch support, as well as a breathable performance mesh. Natural wool yarns keep feet cool and dry during activity, Stance said.

“We knew we wanted to outfit our fans in the ultimate Socks and Sandals uniform for Fall, and automatically thought of Stance as the ideal partner for this story,” Anders Bergstrom, Teva’s vice president, said. “As a brand that shares the same Teva brand vision and adventurous spirit, it made Stance our perfect pair—pun intended.”

Bergstrom said the collaboration would help the Teva community brave the elements “well into fall and beyond.”

Stance jumped at the chance to partner with Teva because of the brands’ shared appreciation for the “adventure and lifestyle spaces,” according to Albie Rosario, vice president of business development for the sock maker.

“Utilizing recycled and upcycled yarns throughout this project made it even more special,” she added. “We hope both our customers enjoy the quality and design of this project and appreciate its meaning.”

The limited-edition capsule, available as a pack of Hurricane XLT2 Stance sandals and matching Stance performance socks, comes in men’s sizes 7-14 and women’s sizes 5-11, and is available on Teva.com.
