Under Armour announced Tuesday a four-year partnership with British tennis pro Andy Murray. As part of the signing, Murray will don Under Armour apparel, footwear and accessories and will star in the brand’s marketing campaigns, participate in global training and tennis activations and will make appearances for the athletic label beginning Jan. 2015.
Murray, whose five-year contract with Adidas recently ended, will sport Under Armour for the first time on Thursday at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
The tennis star said, “I am very honored and excited to be joining Team Under Armour and to help them tell their story globally. They are committed to providing innovative apparel, accessories, and footwear, with an unmatched focus on training and performance.”
Murray, currently ranked sixth in the world, broke into the Top 100 in 2005 and won his first career title in 2006. He has since been regarded as a top contender in Grand Slam tournaments. Murray joins Under Armour’s world-class roster of athletes including, Tom Brady, Lindsey Vonn, Cam Newton, Stephen Curry and fellow tennis player Sloane Stephens.
Ryan Kuehl, Under Armour senior category director, global golf and tennis, said, “Signing Andy is really a special moment for the brand, as we continue to elevate and diversify our athlete roster and expand our international presence. Andy’s remarkable character, competitive spirit and unmatched ability make him the perfect fit for our family.”
