Vans’ Iconic Checkerboard Prints Get a Seasonal Update

Vans is rejuvenating its iconic Checkerboard motif this spring with colorways that reference back to the style’s Southern California youth culture origins.

“Vans are a natural canvas and in the late ’70s we started seeing Vans fans sketch all over their shoes,” said Steve Van Doren, Vans vice president of events and son of the founder. “Before we knew it, checkerboard was everywhere so we wanted to introduce our own version and make sure it was ‘Off The Wall.’”

New colorways for Spring ’16 include yellow, burgundy, blue and espresso brown, available in Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Classic Slip-On silhouettes. The print is carried into additional products like the women’s Dazie-Hi, the Camper hat and backpacks. The new collection is available now at Vans stores, online and at select retail partners.
