FFANY and FN Platform to Collaborate on Upcoming Footwear Trade Shows

With the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) and FN Platform falling on coinciding dates for February 2019, the two shows will work together to navigate the overlap in dates.

FFANY hosts two quarterly events in New York City—FFANY Market Week and the New York Shoe Expo—while Informa produces hundreds of industry events worldwide.

Informa also recently merged with fellow U.K. event organizer UBM—host of FN Platform, Coterie, Magic and Project—to establish itself as a leading global event organizer in the apparel industry.

This February, there is a date overlap with the FN Platform trade show in Las Vegas and NY Shoe Expo. Moving forward, the organizations will coordinate in planning their respective trade show calendars to avoid overlapping and make both events accessible for footwear industry professionals without logistical barriers. For the February 2019 shows, they will work with brands and retailers to develop personalized recommendations and programs that enable them to participate in both events.

Aside from avoiding scheduling conflicts, the impetus for the collaboration comes from a mutual understanding of the need for “a consistent market calendar based on industry demand” and a desire to better address footwear industry needs by ensuring attendees can visit both shows without unnecessary  logistical obstacles.

“We look forward to collaborating with Informa to collectively serve the footwear industry,” Ron Fromm, president & CEO of FFANY said in a joint statement with Informa. “Informa’s policy of transparency in scheduling and our mutual commitment to serve the needs of footwear brands and retailers with a thoughtful calendar is a development that will benefit all.”

The collaboration also will include a research and development component, with both organizations committing to joint research that will help their footwear trade shows make better industry recommendations. FFANY and Informa also hope to create a footwear industry “roundtable” in the future, and noted that further details will be forthcoming.

“We are appreciative to be working alongside FFANY on this forward-thinking planning initiative and collaboration,” said Mark Temple-Smith, commercial director, global exhibitions, at Informa. “We support FFANY’s service to the industry in charity and education and look forward to working on our joint commitment to ensure all footwear brands and retailers have the necessary opportunities to succeed.”

FFANY, Informa and UBM are not the only apparel industry organizations to collaborate on trade shows for the upcoming season. Last month, global event organizer Premium Group bought a minority stake in Las Vegas apparel trade show organizer Liberty Fairs.
