Brooks Running Introduces a New Lightweight Protective Midsole Compound

Brooks Running is vying for ultimate comfort with its latest midsole innovation. The performance footwear company introduced DNA Loft foam, protective midsole compound that instantly adapts to the runner’s individual stride, weight and speed, but with a softer underfoot feeling.

The technology is achieved with a unique blend of EVA, rubber and air. Rubber adds longevity, ensuring the softness lasts the lifetime of the shoe, while air decreases the material’s weight, according to Brooks.

DNA Loft is the second new midsole technology Brooks has debuted in a year. In September, the company launched DNA AMP, a polyurethane-based cushioning system which provides the brand’s most energy return.

“After delivering our highest energy return technology with DNA AMP, we challenged ourselves to go back to the lab and create the same unparalleled experience for runners who prefer an ultra-soft running experience,” Carson Caprara, Brooks Running director of global product line management, said. “We heard from runners that they are looking for a supremely cushioned experience but don’t want any extra weight holding them back. With DNA Loft we created a new way to blend our foam so that it delivers on-demand cushioning without added weight or bulk, providing runners with a comfortable and protected ride.”

The compound will debut in the updated Glycerin 16 Friday and in the new Ghost 11 on June 26.

Brooks Running is proving to be a brand to watch in the race for performance, cushioning and customization. The company announced last week that it is partnering with HP Inc. to customize its forthcoming limited-edition Genesys shoe to each buyer. The shoe will be available in the market in 2019.
