Backcountry.com Interim CEO Jonathan Nielsen has been selected CEO by the company’s Board of Directors. Nielsen has been serving as the online outdoor retailer’s Interim CEO since December 2015, when Jill Layfield stepped down from the position.
Nielsen is tasked to execute Backcountry.com’s growth strategy across its multiple brand, categories and geographies.
In a statement, Nielsen said, “With Backcountry’s incredibly loyal customer base, exceptional ecommerce platform, high quality product offering, and robust partner relationships, we are well positioned to continue to drive growth and broaden our reach within the outdoor retail market.”
Nielsen joined Backcountry in 2010 to lead the corporate development and strategy teams. Since that time, he has led the acquisition of Competitive Cyclists and served as executive vice president of product management and design. In 2014, his role expanded to include management of Backcountry’s Competitive Cyclist and MotoSport business, as well as European expansion via Bergfruende.
