Footwear prices fell in December, their fourth consecutive monthly drop, in what now appears to be a trend in the sector.

The footwear CPI (consumer price index) fell by one percent year-over year, according to the most recent data released last week by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, slightly more than apparel, whose prices dropped by .9% on the month.

Within footwear, men’s footwear prices dropped by 1.4%, while women’s remained virtually flat, no pun intended. Children’s prices dropped the most, by 2.6%.
