Neiman Marcus Latest Luxury Store to Expand Its Footprint

Following Barneys’ recent move into Downtown Manhattan and Saks’ arrival in Canada, Neiman Marcus announced the opening of a new location on Long Island, New York.

Though luxury spending has been on the decline, this class of retailers continue to forge ahead, with the latest opening being Neiman Marcus’ 105,649-square-foot space at the Roosevelt Field Mall, a Simon Property Group location. The store spans two floors and includes 32 vendor shops, an NM Cafe, a cosmetics spa and two personal shopping areas.

The omnichannel experience is essential to Neiman Marcus’ expansion, as comparable sales were down 5.6 percent in the company’s last report. Karen Katz, the president and CEO of Neiman Marcus Group, said in an interview with Fortune, “There is no question our customer and the next generation want both experiences.” She continued, “They want the two channels to be completely interactive.”

In keeping with this idea, each Neiman Marcus sales associate will be given an iPhone that will house lookbooks and access to the online store and other store locations.

Neiman Marcus will also invest in other new technologies, including two Memory Mirrors, which capture images and videos of the customers, which can then be shared via email, social media or with a sales associate for future shopping recommendations. There will also be a ChargeItSpot with stations that enable customers to lock up and charge their phones.

Katz said, “Neiman Marcus is thrilled to open our forty-second store at Roosevelt Field. This is our first store on Long Island and we are excited to be a part of this dynamic area. Our hope is that this beautiful store will become a landmark for the entire area.”
