Veteran footwear executive Richard (Rick) Mina has been named president of WSS, the urban specialty footwear retailer based in California. Mina will lead the store’s continued market expansion and oversee strategic brand and retail partnerships.
The former Foot Locker North America president and CEO brings with him more than three decades of experience in the footwear retail realm. Mina has spent several years in the private equity segment, and joins WSS from Active Ride Shop, a leading Southern California-based action sports industry retailer, where he has served as a board member since June 2014 and as of last October, served as a stakeholder president.
“WSS is a significant urban footwear retailer that has specifically connected and resonated with the Latino and urban communities. They have a solid track record of giving back to the community and have built an incredible company with a great future. I am very excited to join this wonderful and capable team,” Mina said in a release.
WSS is tapping into new markets. In early 2015, the retailer celebrated the opening of a new store in Inglewood, Calf. It opened a second location in Las Vegas in May.
