Skechers is going mobile as the company announced the launch of a new mobile app on Wednesday.
The app, available for iOS and Android devices, allows Skechers customers to take their shopping anywhere, offering app-users the added bonus of using Apple Pay or Android Pay.
The app also includes features meant to draw customers to Skechers retail locations, including a store locator and proximity notifications for offers and events in nearby stores, as well as a barcode search function that will help the consumers find and order additional sizes and colors that might otherwise be unavailable in a specific store.
“The retail environment has shifted as an increasing number of millennial and post-millennial consumers seek out the most convenient, informative, and streamlined shopping experiences,” said Skechers President Michael Greenberg. “We’re excited that the new Skechers app will allow us to better reach and connect with the younger demographic of our fan base both on-the-go and through stronger interactive elements in our brick and mortar retail stores.”
The new venture also offers a shopping-enabled social media component that the brand hopes will increase discovery and encourage shoppers and fans to share images of their best Skechers looks. Instagram pics posted with #Skechers will be featured in a devoted ‘ShopIg’ section of the app, allowing consumers to buy shoes seen in their favorite Instagrams.
“By encouraging engagement, we hope to drive excitement for the brand and make it easy for men and women to purchase that perfect pair when they discover it online or out in the world,” said Greenberg.
