The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) announced Friday that President Barack Obama will be given the 2016 OIA Friend of the Outdoor Industry Award during the association’s Capitol Summit on April 27.
President Obama will be honored by OIA for his support of the outdoor industry during his two terms, including his policies which have protected more outdoor places than any other president in U.S. history, and for his efforts to eliminate trade barriers and promote Made in USA products.
Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Representative Mike Simpson (R-ID) and Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) will also be honored for their work in Congress to ensure the outdoor industry’s interests and values are factored in international trade issues.
“On many issues, Washington, D.C., has come to represent division and partisanship,” said OIA Executive Director Amy Roberts in a statement. “One issue that is finding common ground, however, is that outdoor recreation is a powerful economic force and a foundation for healthy communities and healthy economies across the United States. We are proud to present these awards to President Obama and our champions for the outdoor industry in Congress.”
