GDS Returns to a September Schedule

COVID-19 recovery is on the horizon but the pandemic's impact on sustainability, retail, product development and consumer buying patterns means the denim industry must evolve. Join Rivet on April 20th at 11 am ET for the COVID, One Year Later roundtable.

GDS is updating its calendar—once again—to better accommodate brands designing closer to market and buyers ordering later in the season.

The new summer GDS 2017 dates will shift from a mid-week July schedule to a Sunday-Tuesday schedule in September. The show will announce specific dates in early December.

The growing online sector, vertical operations and “see now, buy now” consumer habits were some of the market changes GDS considered in its decision to change dates. The German show moved its show dates from September to July three years ago, however, Messe Düsseldorf CEO and President Matthias Dornscheidt said many things have happened in the meantime. “Whoever you talk to—all confirm that the market is governed by great insecurity,” he said.

GDS traditionally takes place at the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition center. The show may clash with other events taking place at the convention center. Therefore, Dornscheidt said it may move to another venue.

The next GDS show will take place Feb. 7-9, 2017. Messe Düsseldorf expects more than 700 brands to exhibit.
