4 Ways to Make a Fashion Statement for Spring ’18

With the Spring ’18 buying season in full swing, four trends proved to be winners during FFANY in New York, Aug. 1-3. Here’s a look at four style statements on deck for the new season.

1. Touch and Feel

Emu Australia saw movement with its collection of sheepskin slides. A hit with Urban Outfitters, the brightly colored slippers turn up the volume with oversize furry uppers and soles. Colors include teddy bear tan, silver/gray, fuchsia and a collegiate golden yellow. Patricia Green updated classic casual loafer slides and open toe mules with opulent brocades in rich jewel tone colors. Pikolinos layered perforated leather over denim uppers to add depth to their signature oxfords. Meanwhile a range of lace-ups inspired by retro runners from the Spanish brand played with texture by combining metallic leather, perfs and woven details with espadrille stitching on the sole.

2. Lovey-Dovey

Inspired by designers like Charlotte Olympia, Sophia Webster and Lulu Guinness, brands at FFANY incorporated playful retro elements to their spring collections. Expect brands to add some love to their styles with red hearts and red lips.

3. Pearly Whites

Ladylike pearls continue to dot across collections. The bauble remains a go-to detail to soften man-tailored oxfords. However, pearls look fresh on simplified silhouettes like Summit’s simple ballet flats.

4. Summer Suede

Summer suede is back in a big way. Suede in sorbet colors dominated Spring ’18 collections across ballet flats, slides and loafers. French Sole New York incorporated the material to a range of scalloped edge flats, Summit White Mountain added relaxed bows to suede constructions and Andrea Carrano presented a colorful collection of suede loafers. M4D3 Shoes complemented its line of sandals and sneakers with pastel marble effects with a deep range of suede block heel pumps and sling backs in refreshing sunset-inspired hues.
