Athletes Pay Homage to Kobe Byrant on “Mamba Day”

Fashion is at a crossroads: continue with cutting-edge strategies developed to persevere during Covid or slide back into familiar (yet unprofitable) habits? Get the experts' perspective at our in-person Sourcing Summit, Oct. 19 at New York’s Cipriani 42nd Street.

As NBA star Kobe Bryant gets ready to retire for good, Nike is paying tribute to one of their star athletes (and biggest brand names) with a celebration that will bring together athletes of all sorts.

From April 7 to “Mamba Day” on April 13, Nike-sponsored athletes worldwide will celebrate Bryant by wearing black and gold shoes, a metaphoric nod to Bryant’s “golden career” fading to black on Mamba Day.

The black and gold Nike product seen worldwide over the next week appropriately leads into the Mamba Day celebration on April 13, when the Los Angeles Lakers hosts the Utah Jazz in Bryant’s final professional game.
