Sustainable shoe brand Allbirds launched its first-ever children’s line, Smallbirds, in a limited-edition collection for kids 2 to 4 years old.
The line offers three colorways, NZ Blue, Kea Red and Natural Grey. Smallbirds aims to offer a sustainable shoe option for children, as well as adults. And, in classic Allbirds fashion, the shoes are machine washable.
“Customers have long been asking when we would introduce a line for kids. Given merino wool’s intrinsic qualities, it made complete sense to move in this direction—it’s soft to the touch, washable and tailor-made for sensitive young skin. Plus, the naming options were just too good,” said Co-Founder Tim Brown.
In celebration of the launch, Allbirds Co-Founder Joey Zwillinger wrote a children’s picture book focusing on curiosity, community and the courageous life of Sadie the Sheep.
“We loved the idea of connecting the Smallbirds launch with a playful story about a single person’s ability to make a positive impact on our planet,” said Zwillinger. Shoppers will get a free copy of Sadie Shaves the Day with purchase for a limited time. Afterward, copies of the book will sell for $15, with proceeds going to 826 Valencia, an organization that supports the literary arts.
Smallbirds sells for $55 online and at Allbirds retail stores in New York City and San Francisco.
