Television personality Nick Cannon and his three rooms of luxury footwear are the focus of the first “Complex Closets,” a new video series visiting the closets of entertainment and pop culture figures.
Hosted by Joe La Puma, Complex Media director of content strategy, Monday’s debut episode gives an all-access look at Cannon’s expansive collection of footwear, which ranges from designer dress shoes to customized classic sneakers.
The world got a glimpse of Cannon’s taste for expensive footwear when he famously wore custom diamond and white gold Tom Ford loafers worth $2 million on “America’s Got Talent.”
In the video, Cannon says, “Obviously I’m an over-the-top dude, and I wanted to stunt. You win $1 million on America’s Got Talent if you win the show, so I was like, ‘Yo, I want to have a million dollars on each foot.’ It took a year and a half to make these, so I’ve been planning for so long. The goal is to sell them and donate all the proceeds to charity.”
The video series is an extension of Complex’s “Sneaker Shopping” franchise. The episodes give viewers a rare glimpse inside the lives of tastemakers and artists, while fashion and footwear serve as the jumping off point for conversations about where culture, news and trends is going.
“For a lot of people, footwear choices are a window into their personalities,” said La Puma. “There’s obviously a fashion element, but they’re also collectibles, and so many of the shoes have fascinating stories behind them. It’s a show about more than what’s in the closet, and it brings fans closer to some of the most interesting people in the world in a way that’s both intimate and casual.”
