Brands were showing off some major bling during New York Fashion week, with Swarovski crystals dominating runways in several Spring/Summer ’17 collections.

Swarovski Collective members Creatures of the Wind, Tome and Rosie Assoulin were just some of the brands who incorporated the crystals into their runway looks.

The Swarovski Collective encourages designers to push their creative limits by using crystals in creative ways. The Collective designers received financial support and the opportunity to experiment with the extensive Swarovski crystal range.

Tome used the crystals on fishnet banding to show off the geometric shapes of their collection, while Colors of the Wind sewed the crystals onto clothes.

Rosie Assoulin used the crystals to form color blocks in many different colors on a dress which boasted 142,000 crystals. The designer also incorporated the stones onto shoes, a hat, fringe for a top and to spell out phrases like ‘Thank you have a nice day’ and ‘wish you were here’ on custom tops.

Colors of the Wind used the crystals for appliques developed from Victorian mourning jewelry, and put the stones alongside custom lace patterns and floral prints to play an optical illusion of layers. The designer also sewed the stones into the patterns, showing that crystals can be more than an accessory.

The latest edition of the Swarovski Collective program extends to New York, London, Paris and Milan fashion weeks.
