Skate footwear brand Etnies announced Monday the continuation of a long-term partnership with Michelin, an innovative tread design company, to create some of the toughest outsoles available in the market with the Marana OG.
The Marana OG features Michelin Technical Soles for more superior durability and performance. After collaborating with Michelin, the outsole can now last for as long as the durable upper, which previously outlasted the soles.
“This level of rubber technology was sought out through Michelin, who allowed us to tap into their technical know-how and rubber design expertise,” James Appleby, VP of global sales for Etnies said in a statement.
Michelin comes into play by translating the durable technology of their tires and using rally racing PC00—transforming the product into long-lasting, slip-resistant and light shoes.
“Choosing Etnies has been important for us because it provided the opportunity to work together with experienced skateboarders to develop a durable product, one that will bring great advantages to the whole community. The commitment and synergistic collaboration between the two teams – from the designers, R&D and each single person involved in the project – resulted in a three-times more durable sole without compromising the performance of the shoe,” Filippo Sartor, partnership development manager at JVI for Michelin Technical Soles said. “This has been a real and tough challenge. The new Marana perfectly matches the needs of the skaters. What’s more, it is perfect for all skateboarders who demand a shoe that can withstand constant use.”
The shoes boast better durability from a fused, injected rubber toe cap, extra comfort thanks to a padded tongue and collar with hidden lace tops, and a STI Evolution foam midsole for impact resistance.
The shoes will be available July 2017, and sell for around $75.
