No one can deny the appeal of casual footwear; even Barbie has slipped into something more comfortable. The new line from Mattel brings Barbie down from her tiptoes for the first time since 1959.

In January, Mattel began producing more diverse versions of the doll. There are 23 new Fashionista Barbies featuring 14 different facial looks, eight skin tones, 18 eye colors and 23 hair colors. According to the AP, Mattel said the switch from heels to flats is an effort to accessorize street styles in the new line.

Barbie’s more sensible footwear selection include black T-strap flats, fringe gladiator sandals and resort-friendly flat orange sandals.
