Following news last month that Wendy Kahn had been appointed to the role of CEO and brand president, top brass is again changing at Stuart Weitzman, which announced Tuesday that Giovanni Morelli will take on the role of creative director.
Morelli will succeed Weitzman, who will be stepping down as the head of the brand he founded and into the role of chairman. Morelli, an accessories designer by trade, joins Stuart Weitzman from Loewe, where he served as design director of leather goods.
“In Giovanni, we have found a creative director who will ensure that the unique DNA of the brand will be preserved while infusing his creative vision for a modern age,” said Weitzman. “Giovanni is respected for his attention to detail, respect of quality and craftsmanship and for his modern sensibility that is always pushing new design boundaries.”
Morelli will take on his role effective May 5, 2017, and will report to Kahn, who will take on her role starting in September. The new leadership roles mark a new chapter for the footwear brand, which was purchased by Coach Inc. in 2015 and has proven to be an asset to the company in its most recent earnings report.
“Women globally have embraced Stuart Weitzman’s beautiful shoes that offer both amazing design and incredible comfort. I look forward to expanding the brand’s language and its global reach while remaining respectful of the culture and key tenets that it was founded on, which in turn have inspired such strong customer loyalty,” said Morelli in a statement. “Stuart has been my partner in finding his own successor, and his continued presence will ensure a seamless transition.”
