From hotels to casinos, the Trump dynasty is hard to avoid. Following in her father’s footsteps, Ivanka Trump has become a brand name in her own right, including a signature clothing line.
As her father’s campaign has descended into controversy, the #grabyourwallet movement began. People across the Twitter-verse urged consumers to ‘grab their wallets’ and refrain from shopping at stores carrying Ivanka Trump products.
In a Good Morning America interview Thursday, Ivanka Trump finally spoke out about the #grabyourwallet movement.
“The beauty of America is that people can do what they like, but I prefer to talk to the millions—tens of millions—of American women who are inspired by the brand and the message I’ve created,” said Trump during an interview with GMA host George Stephanopoulos. “My advocacy of women [and] trying to empower them in all aspects of their life started long before this Presidential campaign did. I’ve never politicized that message. People are seeking to politicize it because they disagree with the policies of my father—there’s nothing I can do to change that.”
Ivanka Trump’s eponymous line maintains its continued success, despite the heavy twitter backlash from naysayers, who dubbed the #grabyourwallet hashtag to boycott Ivanka Trump’s products.
According to the parent companies of Trump’s line, Mark Fischer and G-III, the election is a non-issue for sales.
Despite Ivanka Trump’s cool during the interview, and statement that she “never politicized that message,” people continue to boycott her products.
