Nike Debuts New Manhattan HQ

Nike opened its new New York City headquarters, which expands nearly 150,000 square feet, across six floors at 855 Avenue of the Americas, Monday.

The company’s latest real estate venture comes after opening stores across the city, like the Nike SoHo store and the Nike Community Store.

The new headquarters represents part of a worldwide initiative to add resources in influential sport and style hubs, as well as bolsters the company’s efforts to deliver locally-inspired product to New York City faster.

The NYHQ houses an integrated design studio and includes a 4,000-square-foot indoor basketball court with seating for 400 people. The space will host local leagues, high school teams and community partners. The space will also be available for Nike staff.

Nike designed the NYHQ to help employees with the creative and collaborative process with an open-plan workspace. As a tribute to the original van that company founders Bill Bowerman and Jeff Johnson would distribute Nike shoes at track meets in the company’s beginning, the NYHQ also features a VW van as a meeting area.

In true Nike flair, select conference rooms offer ceiling tiles designed by Miniwiz, which are made from recycled material. A roof terrace features plants in the shape of the Nike swoosh, serves as a space for open-air meetings.
