Nike and Stone Island Make Water-Resistant Sneaker

When it’s deliver-or-die, supply chains become the lifeblood of a company. To that end, the fashion industry has embraced technology to navigate today’s hyper-complicated supply chain, with myriad solutions shaping the first, middle and last mile. Call it Sourcing 2.0.

Nike teamed up with Stone Island, a fiber and textile research and innovation company, to bring an innovative weatherized sneaker, the NikeLab Sock Dart Mid, with water-resistant capabilities.

The new collaboration comes after opening a new interactive store in Miami Beach, and ramping up their presence in J.C. Penney stores.

The NikeLab Sock Dart, initially sold in Japan in 2004, became a sneakerhead collector’s item. Now, with the help of Stone Island, the classic shoe is revamped. Ensuring more water protection, the shoe’s new outsole creates water dispersion and better traction through a multi-directional sipe pattern.

The shoe’s pattern was engineered at Nike’s lab in Italy, and allows breath ability and zonal protection and comes in three colorways: black, obsidian blue and a Stone Island flagship store exclusive, Sequoia green.

The NikeLab Sock Dart Mid x Stone Island sneaker hits stores and online Jan. 26.
