Outdoor Retailer is moving to Denver, Colo. beginning with the Jan. 25-28, 2018 trade event.
Emerald Expositions, the producer of Outdoor Retailer, selected the Mile-High City as the venue for its entire roster of shows, including Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show, Outdoor Retailer Summer Market and Outdoor Retailer Winter Market.
The move comes after nearly 20 years of holding shows in Salt Lake City. Outdoor Retailer announced in February that it would search for a new place after brands like Patagonia and Polartec withdrew from the upcoming July event in protest over Utah’s public land policy.
The trade show engaged industry partners, including Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), SnowSports Industries America and Grassroots Outdoor Alliance, throughout the process to help identify the best venue for the show. In a press release, Outdoor Retailer Show Director Marisa Nicholson said the organization received submissions from many outdoor cities. However, she said Denver was “the undeniable industry choice.”
Outdoor recreation is a huge economic force in Colorado. Amy Roberts, OIA executive director, said the state’s outdoor recreation industry generates $28 billion in consumer spending annually and contributes 229,000 jobs and $2 billion in state and local tax revenue.
She added, “Colorado’s elected officials have shown significant leadership in promoting policies that ensure the outdoor recreation economy continues to thrive. OIA looks forward to having our industry gathering contribute to Denver’s economy and serve as a platform for collaboration that increases outdoor access and participation for all Americans.”
